Following our original collaboration on Explorium in 2017, we were invited to return to Ireland’s National Sport and Science Centre to develop a series of new interactive visitor experiences and internal improvements as part of the centre’s reopening and renewal.

The project focused on the architectural design and delivery of two major new interactive installations, together with a series of internal reconfigurations across the ground and first floors. The overall brief was to enhance the visitor experience while improving circulation, accessibility, operational flow and the day-to-day functionality of the building.

COOL IT – Interactive Climate Experience

Located on the first floor, COOL IT is an immersive and interactive climate science experience designed to engage visitors with the challenges of climate change and sustainability. The exhibition combines architecture, technology and interactive elements, allowing visitors to explore climate science, understand their personal environmental impact and discover potential sustainable solutions through hands-on experiences.

Immersive Sensory & Virtual Experience

At ground-floor level, a new immersive sensory and virtual experience space was created to provide visitors with a highly engaging, multi-sensory environment. The installation combines spatial design with interactive and digital technology to create an accessible experience that encourages exploration, curiosity and discovery for visitors of different ages and abilities.

Internal Reconfiguration & Visitor Experience

Alongside the new installations, targeted alterations were made to the existing building across the ground and first floors. These interventions focused on improving spatial layouts, circulation routes and operational functionality, while creating a more intuitive and accessible visitor journey through the Science and Sports Centre.

The project builds upon our original architectural work at Explorium and demonstrates how considered interior architecture, exhibition design and spatial reconfiguration can transform existing visitor attractions. By integrating architecture, interactive technology and experiential design, the new spaces provide engaging environments for learning, science and discovery while supporting the evolving operational needs of the centre.
